A Porsche you can afford

Speaking with car lovers the brand Porsche will always be mentioned, immediately being followed by how you can pickup an older one for cheap. However, they will also quickly remind you that for some people, owning the car is “good enough” as long as it runs. This means there are plenty of project cars out on the streets. Now how about moving to something a little more modern? Here’s a car that provides one of the greatest driving experiences without breaking your bank or your lifestyle. The second generation 2009-2010 Porsche Cayman S is all the car an enthusiasts needs for his commute to work and to the race track. The Cayman S provides more power and exterior styling that really pushes it into another category. It’s clear that the Cayman’s unique styling is reminiscent of the 1964 Porsche 904 GTS.

The 2009 on-wards Cayman S packs a punch with its 3.4-liter engine producing 320 horsepower at 7200 rpm and 273 lb-ft of torque at 4750 rpm. This translates into less than 5 seconds to go zero to sixty. The Cayman features a hot-galvanized all-steel body on a monocoque structure. The low, sleek design has a coefficient of drag of just 0.29 when equipped with manual gearbox or 0.30 with PDK. For those that don’t know about the PDK it’s worth doing a search on those little letters (Porsche PDK). The PDK offers greater performance for the enthusiast when utilized with the optional Sport Chrono Package Plus. The Sport Chrono Package Plus allows more aggressive control maps for the engine speed limiter, Porsche Stability Management (PSM), Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), as well as the PDK. All of this comes at the touch of a button located on the center console. Best of all, the entire package also includes a separate stopwatch gauge on top of the instrument panel. The body of the car really draws in on-looks as the car darts through traffic. The design details of the Cayman S shows off more exaggerated 911 hips and a sloping rear hatch giving it a three-door feel (think Audi TT).

Let’s not forget that you can always have fun with the Cayman S beyond its factory components. Because of its light weight and great power to weight ratio this car’s performance easily matches Porsche’s more elite group of head turners. The best part is that you can easily modify the car to ensure extra fun.
